COVID-19 ANTIBODY TEST
What is the COVID-19 antibody test offered by TRS Health?
The COVID-19 antibody test is a blood test. A small sample of your blood (6-8 ml) will be drawn using venipuncture. This test detects COVID- 19 IgG and IgM antibodies in the blood. The test is conducted using Abbott Laboratories Architect platform.
These antibodies are created by the body’s immune system in response to a COVID-19 infection. The presence of antibodies in the blood indicates a previous or current COVID-19 infection. It may take up to 14 days after the onset of symptoms or exposure to COVID-19 for antibodies to be present in the blood. Although you may never show any symptoms related to COVID-19, you may still have an antibody response that is detectable.
Antibody Test for IgG detects IgG antibodies that develop in most patients within seven to 10 days after symptoms of COVID-19 begin. IgG antibodies remain in the blood after an infection has passed. These antibodies indicate that you may have had COVID-19 in the recent past and have developed antibodies that may protect you from future infection. It is unknown at this point how much protection antibodies might provide against reinfection.
Antibody Test for IgM detects IgM antibodies. IgM is usually the first antibody produced by the immune system when a virus attacks. A positive IgM test indicates that you may have been infected and that your immune system has started responding to the virus. When IgM is detected you may still be infected, or you may have recently recovered from a COVID-19 infection.
It is not known for how long antibodies persist following infection and if the presence of antibodies confers protective immunity. Results are usually available within 48 to 72 hours. This test should not be used to diagnose an acute COVID-19 infection. Please discuss your test results with your provider upon receipt.

COVID-19 PCR TEST
What is the COVID-19 PCR test offered by TRS Health?
The COVID-19 PCR Diagnostic Panel is a real-time RT-PCR test. It is designed, validated, and is intended for medically indicated diagnostic testing in symptomatic patients. The PCR probes detect the presence of COVID-19 genes in the patients upper and lower respiratory tracts in specimens collected from nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal swabs or sputum.
Positive Results indicate an active infection with 2019-nCoV but do not rule out bacterial infection or co-infection with other viruses. The agent detected may not be the definite cause of disease.
Negative Results do not preclude 2019-nCoV infection and should not be used as the sole basis for treatment or other patient management decisions. Negative results must be combined with clinical observations, patient history, and epidemiological information. Please repeat PCR testing in 3-5 days for at-risk or high-risk symptomatic individuals. Additional information on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) can be obtained from the CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html
